Down in the Flood

I should be studying but couldn’t help but notice that Dylan’s ‘Down in the Flood’ was on the list of songs he recorded with The Band.. thought I’d share one of my favorite covers of this song by The Derek Trucks Band with Mike Mattison on lead vocals and Derek Trucks on slide guitar. Derek was somewhat of a child prodigy and is in my opinion the greatest slide guitarist since Duane Allman – his Dad, Butch Trucks, was the drummer for The Allman Brothers Band and I believe Derek first started playing with them at maybe ten years old. He’s now married to a woman some of you may know named Susan Tedeschi and their band, The Tedeschi Trucks Band, is really worth listening to – saw them in town a few weeks ago. Anyway, here’s DTB’s cover of ‘Down in the Flood’ as well as Derek doing Clapton’s ‘Layla’ followed by a lil down south jam at just 13 yrs old – reppin’ my Braves, of course. Enjoy.
